If you thought spiders were so darn scary, get a load of the Pterygotus. It is an extinct Eurypterid, related to arachnids (the spider family), and they’re dubbed the “sea scorpions.” So if you’re scared of spiders and scorpions, this would be your ultimate enemy.
The Pterygotus lived during the Silurian and Devonian periods and fossils were found in North America, South America, Europe, and Australia.
The Pterygotus was a large fellow—reaching a body length of 1.6 meters or a little more than 5 feet. It had a large pair of eyes with smaller eyes in the center of its head. It boasted four pairs of walking legs with a fifth pair to assist in swimming. Oh, and did I mention it had large pincers?
